The words will linger for some time but the picture will last forever. This picture can be captured in many ways. Modern technology has it that it can be captured and displayed within seconds. This does not however condemn the ancient method of paint that has helped to preserve age old memories up to today. The art of oil painting is one that is decades old but the new technology has not managed to wipe it aside. All technology has done is to improve on it and made it easier for the modern painter.
The modern painting tolls are better and faster to use but it will take more than that to get the best out of a painting. The ideas and creativity of a painter are vital for every brilliant piece of work. There are a few steps that one can follow to improve on the skills and helps to perfect the final outcome.
The right choice of tools is crucial for any painter. The use of quality brushes and paint is encouraged as it impacts heavily on the appearance of the art. Substandard materials will produce shoddy work.
The surface on which you work on should be spacious enough to accommodate all the tools that you need for the assignment. The use of linseed oil is encouraged for the bottom layers of any work of art as it will dry all the oil that is used as mediums. The linseed oil should not be used as a medium for white and blue paints as it leaves a yellow effect that is easily noticed on many light colors.
The use of oil should be increased for each layer that is added as the lower layers will take in the oil from the added layer. The danger of the upper layer drying before the lower one is that it leads to cracking. This can lead to use of more paint than required.
The work should not be dried in the darkness when you finish working on it. This causes it to have the yellow effect. The studio lighting is the most appropriate for drying the paint.
The way you clean up the area of operation is also important for every painter. You will probably be working from there on your next assignment. The use of alcohol is encouraged for cleaning the area as it is a strong solvent. As it takes some time to dry it is possible to rectify a mistake on an oil painting while it is still wet.
